Richard Lyle Sharpe, 75, of Lexington, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at his home surrounded by loving family, in Lexington, NC. He was born on July 17, 1941 in Tyro, NC to the late Samuel Alexander Sharpe Jr. and Marjalene Swicegood Sharpe. Richard proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.
Richard was of the Baptist Faith and he worked for the following agencies; Davidson County Sherifs Dept. as a Deputy under Sheriff Fred Sink, Davie County Sheriffs Dept. as a Detective and Chief Deputy under Sheriff Kiger, and as a North Carolina State Prison Guard for Lexington, Salisbury, and Mocksville until his retirement. He enjoyed going to the shooting range, spending time with friends and family, and he was a superior marksmen. Richard was an avid fan of the UNC Tarheels and Washington Redskins and he enjoyed watching Michael Jordan play. Richard was super proud of both grandsons being good christian boys and so smart academically. Richard loved Kaitlynn’s spunk and smile.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Susan Sharpe.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Adkins of the home; two sons, Shannon Lyle (Tammy) Sharpe of Lexington, and Timothy Richard Sharpe of King; two grandsons, Aaron Adkins of Louisville, Kentucky, and Samuel Adkins of Lexington; a granddaughter, Kaitlynn Sharpe of Lexington; and a sister, Lynn Sharpe Black of Lexington.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
The family will be at the home of Jennifer Adkins the remainder of the time.
